On May 27, 2017, the Ministry of Public Security announced that from June 16, the 2017 version of the permanent residence identity card for foreigners who have obtained permission to stay in China will be issued, and the permanent residence permit for foreigners who have been found to be in China will be suspended.

In 2017, the Ministry of Public Security announced that in Tianjin, Hubei, Chongqing and other free trade zones,as well as in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Guangdong, Sichuan and other provinces and cities, a new entry policy was launched to provide greater convenience for Chinese foreigners to stay in China and permanent residence, to attract foreign students to innovate and start businesses in China, and to provide entry convenience for foreign talents.

Now,

If you have made remarkable contribution to China’s economic and social development or meet other conditions for permanent residence in China, then congratulations, you may obtain permanent residence status upon application approved by the Ministry of Public Security.

The administrative measures for examination and approval of foreigners’ permanent residence in China shall be stipulated by the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in conjunction with relevant departments under the State Council.

If you have obtained permanent residence status, you can  reside or work in China on the strength of permanent residence permits, and exit or enter China on the strength of your passports and permanent residence permits.
